PRESS RELEASE – For immediate release
Great Britain’s Gareth Hughes claims a clean sweep of Grand Prix titles at the Keysoe CDI3*, 16-18th March, sponsored by Equine Construction.
In a weekend where Spring changed back to Winter overnight, Gareth Hughes and Classic Briolinca proved dominant in the Grand Prix classes with commanding victories in both. The only combination to break the 70% barrier in Friday night’s Grand Prix. Saturday’s Freestyle saw varying scores from the judges, with Raphael Saleh awarding 78.5%, despite the test not quite going to plan, leaving Hughes frustrated despite delivering the winning score of 75.590%
Gareth Hughes commented:
“She’s an amazing mare, we’ve had real issues with her over the past few years with injuries and such so it’s amazing to have her back.”
Friday’s Equine Construction Grand Prix was tight at the top with second to sixth place separated by just 0.4% with impressive performances from Sonnar Murray Brown and Erlentanz and Emma Hindle and Romy Del Sol, pushing them up the leaderboard.
Saturday evening’s Freestyle was not lacking in drama as Fiona Bigwood’s music failed to play as she entered the arena with new ride Kjaerholm’s Abutsiaq.
Fiona Bigwood commented:
“The music, well it happens. It played this morning so we thought we were ok with the disk but obviously not…I’ve only ridden him for 8 weeks so I’m really pleased with him. It’s a big ask to come in and do a Kur for the first time.”
Finishing second on a score of 72.835%, Fiona now looks to aim this new ride at the World Equestrian Games in September.
Keysoe owner Simon Bates commented:
“A great three days of international competition. A great team effort from our own Keysoe team and our judges and volunteers to keep the show on the road despite the freezing temperatures.
Congratulations to all riders and many thanks to our sponsors who also braved the ‘beast from the east 2.0’ to attend.”
